Medicare Part B – Nonhospital Medical Coverage (Traditional Medicare)

Background

Medicare covers medical services under Part B, such as those provided by physicians and other clinicians (i.e., nurse practitioners and physician assistants). Medicare Part B also covers other services, such as clinical laboratory tests, x-rays, ambulance transport, and durable medical equipment. For most Part B services, beneficiaries must pay a 20 percent coinsurance.
