AARP’s policies on personal and legal rights are guided by these six principles:
Policymakers should support and encourage intergenerational cooperation.
Policymakers should provide protections for grandparents who are helping to raise grandchildren.
The federal government should provide greater assistance to state and local agencies for crime prevention and deterrence.
Options for alternative dispute resolution should be available. These include mediation and arbitration.
Policymakers and the private sector should ensure that consumers and employees have the right to seek redress through the courts for injury or losses.
