Background

For many Americans, health care is uncoordinated and difficult to obtain. In addition, quality is uneven and the cost is increasingly unaffordable. Safety-net providers play a crucial role in assuring care is accessible to individuals and communities who might otherwise go without. Efforts to improve quality and control health care costs have been made. However, more can be done.
